When the .NET universal top-level domain name extension was initially set up in 1985, together with the first domains on the web, it was meant to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure organizations. As there were no special restrictions about the usage of the top-level domain, though, .NET domains were purchased and used for diverse purposes and by a lot of people. This extension is a perfect substitute of dot COM, particularly if the wanted domain with the latter domain extension is not available for registration.

You can easily correct the WHOIS information of the domain through your Control Panel tool, or, if you don't wish this info to be public at all, you can order a Whois Privacy Protection service, so nobody will be able to get your actual contact details.
